1. Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan is an international women's magazine known for its articles on fashion, health, relationships and sex, and celebrities. Published by Hearst Magazines, it is printed in 34 languages for more than 100 countries.

Cosmo is controversial because of sexually explicit headlines and many stores, such as Kroger grocery stores and Walmart, do not place Cosmo at checkout stands. However, Cosmo wasn't always so controversial. It began in 1886 as a family magazine, but has developed over the years into a literary magazine in the 1930s and finally into the women's magazine it is today beginning in the 1960s.

Cosmo is geared toward the 18-30 year old female population. ASU students fit into this category and many feel they can relate to some of the articles.

"I wait every month for it," Emma Jarrett said. "It appeals to an audience of my age group - too old for Seventeen and too young for Women's Health."

They also honor amateur athletes and a high school "Player of the Month" who have made major accomplishments in their sport.

"It gives you in depth looks at many different sports teams and a commentary on the sports," Shawn Gilbert said.
